Finding your ideal and preferred short-stay apartments in Africa can be very tasking, as some ideal apartment hosts would rather use physical agents for bookings, especially when becoming a host on Airbnb and Booking comes with rigorous processes.
Working on Shortlet was really interesting for me, especially because I had worked for some apartment hosts from February 2022 up until I was designing Shortlet. I had also tried listing the hosts’ brands on Airbnb and Booking, and I was not able to complete it as the process was really tasking.
Designing Shortlet for users to find even local short-stay apartments across Africa easily and for hosts to list their apartments and earn money, I made sure the process was seamless, the user interface was aesthetically pleasing, and effectively functional to ensure a better user experience.

Every user has a choice to either start exploring apartments on Shortlet before signing up or sign up before exploring and booking an apartment.
Guests are required to verify their email and phone numbers before they are allowed to book an apartment on Shortlet. This process is crucial as it provides security measures for the company and hosts in a situation when something is damaged in the apartment by a guest.

Guests can find their dream apartments with 3 easy steps, where they are asked to input their preferred apartment location, booking dates, and the number of guests coming, after which the available apartments matching their input are shown for them to view the pictures, policies, amenities and easily book their chosen apartment.

When a guest books an apartment, the booking is accepted by the host, and the guest is notified.
A guest is required to check in on the app when he or she arrives at the booked apartment and is only allowed to check out on the day the booking ends. This helps the system keep track of when guests arrive on the day their booking starts and leave when it ends.
Guests can also contact the host of the apartment on the app and cancel their bookings as well, terms and conditions apply.

Guests can add their favorite apartments to their wish list, and this helps them to easily find the apartments without having to search for them.
As a guest, you are allowed to manage a wide of features in your guest profile on the application.

Becoming a host
Becoming a host
Every user signs up on Shortlet as a guest and then completes a KYC process to become a host.
To become a host, you are expected to provide a valid government identity and a live photo of your face as a means of verification before you are allowed to list your apartment and earn from bookings.

The process of listing your apartment as a host only requires you to input your apartment’s booking policies, amenities, photos, location, price, number of guests allowed, refundable caution fee price, type of apartment, apartment title, and you get to preview all the information about your apartment before you publish it.
